Why you should choose Keswick for your next UK getaway

A couple of years ago, me and some pals grabbed a Wowcher deal for a 5 night glamping stay in Keswick which is in one of my favourite places ever, the Lake District. Our campsite was tucked away in a little valley in Borrowdale, and we were surrounded by the most amazing scenic countryside walks and hills and lakes to explore (which I absolutely loved and my hay fever absolutely hated).

Anyway, I’ve been thinking a lot about this trip lately because the whole holiday left me feeling so refreshed, recharged and reenergised (and by that I mean my body clock went back to normal for the first time in my whole life) and it was the PERFECT way to completely destress. Here are just some of the reasons why you should choose Keswick for your next UK getaway:

It’s a great excuse for a bloody good road trip

One of the best things about going to Keswick was the road trip we took from Leeds up to the campsite. The four of us drove up in my friend’s car and we spent ages making a CD of our favourite songs to play at full blast/lip sync/sing along to during the journey. (It was really hot that day and we had to have the car windows all the way down, so the whole of the A1 got to hear it too. Hope y’all enjoyed my Cher rendition guys).

Embrace the digital detox

Our campsite had absolutely no phone signal whatsoever, and – despite being a millennial – this was one of my favourite things about the whole trip. We could completely disconnect from the outside world and enjoy living in the moment without subconsciously picking up our phones and getting distracted by pictures of cats or food videos or selfies of people we don’t know. We actually SPOKE to each other with our MOUTHS and it was such a big deal that I apparently felt the need to take photographic evidence:

Escape to nature

It can be easy to take for granted how bloody beautiful so many parts of the UK are. The Lake District is a pretty strong reminder of how picture perfect it can be.

Experience an alternative way of camping

I’ve always enjoyed camping and had wanted to give glamping a go for ages before this trip, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We stayed in a cute lil yurt and it was kitted out with sofa beds, a wood burning stove, a kitchen area, games box, BBQ and a skylight that was perfect for letting the morning light in to wake us up naturally and for stargazing at night. This was all in one room, so it was really nice to be able to spend the whole week together as a group. (Except when one of us starting snoring. And by one of us I mean me).
